DISHWASHING TABLETS

Do you really know what ingredients are in commercial dishwashing tablets or powder? How bloody expensive are they? Not only that but it is highly dangerous to small children. If ingested even in small amounts, it can cause burns to the mouth, digestive system and airways. Not something that I want to wash the plates that I eat off with. Yeah yeah it gets rinsed off. But does it really? Are you 100% sure there is no residue?

Many children every year are admitted to hospital due to ingesting toxic cleaning products. If you have small people in your house, you might like to reduce that likelihood.

This recipe (courtesy of Fiona Brady), is so quick. Took me about 5 minutes to make this tablets. Makes about 30 tablets. (takes 5 minutes to stop having a panic attack over how much dishwashing tablets cost right?)

If you would like to know where to get the ingredients you can check out Ebay. Citric acid and bicarb soda can come in a pack together, 1kg each.

The Doterra cleaner concentrate is used as a non-toxic household cleaner and the lemon essential oil is used for so many purposes. Go to my Lemon essential oil page to see what else you can use it for.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 Cup bi-carb (baking) soda
  • ¼ Cup Citric acid
  • 1 Tbsp. Doterra’s On Guard Cleaner concentrate
  • 14 drops Doterra’s lemon essential oil

METHOD:

  • Add the bi-carb soda to a large bowl.
  • Add the citric acid to one side of the bowl.
  • Add the lemon oil and On Guard concentrate on top of the bi-carb soda, not the citric acid as it will react straight away and ruin it.
  • Mix well. the mixture should be like wet sand and when pushed together should stick.
  • Spoon the mixture into silicon moulds or ice cube trays.
  • Wait 10 minutes and then push it back down into the moulds as it will puff up.
  • Let them sit for at least 4 hours to set and harden.
  • Turn the mould over to get them out.
  • Use one tablet at a time.
