WHY ALOE VERA?

Ever since I started my healing journey, I have been a massive advocate for Aloe Vera products to help cleanse my lifestyle. Prior to my thyroid problem, I just thought Aloe Vera was for sunburn. Although it is, Aloe has so many more benefits.

The inner gel of the leaf is where the amino acids, Vitamins A, B, C and E and Folic acid and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, sodium, manganese, copper and zinc are found. So consuming Aloe Vera is extremely beneficial to the immune system and helps fight oxidative stress. It also has anti-inflammatory properties meaning it supports joint and muscle mobility. People with Arthritis find drinking Aloe Vera very helpful.

Many of us suffer skin sensitivities. Aloe Vera can be soothing and healing for the skin. It can add a rich supply of building materials to produce and maintain healthy skin as well as collagen and elastin repair meaning it is anti-aging. Hair growth and repair is also a benefit of consuming the inner leaf gel.  Of course Aloe Vera provides soothing for burns, cuts, bites and skin irritants.

We say our gut is our second brain and everything passes through it. With food the way it is today, many of us suffer digestive issues. Aloe aids in healthy digestion and is a natural detoxifying substance. Drinking aloe regularly can improve bowel regularity, increase the absorption of protein, decrease bad bacteria and assist in healing the gut lining. If your gut balance is out, it can be hard to maintain a healthy weight. So regular ingestion of Aloe Vera can help combat that. If you suffer heartburn, Crohn’s Disease, Colitis, Diverticulitis, IBS or any other gut related issues, Aloe Vera can be of great assistance to you.

Aloe is great for your mouth and gums as it helps get rid of bacteria. Also the Vitamins and minerals are great for the healing and protection.

You can go into your garden and pull up a leaf and rub it on your skin or put it in your smoothies. Keep in mind that Aloe is like a banana, once peeled it oxidises rapidly and looses it’s potency. So if you don’t use the leaf straight away, it can be less beneficial. Also, when you use the leaf straight from the garden you will probably be consuming the Aloe Latex or Aloin which is the yellowish sap found between the rind and the inner gel. This is known to be a laxative. That is why many products like Aloe juice don’t contain a lot of Aloe. The products I use on the other hand, Forever Living Products, only use the inner leaf gel and are very concentrated. The Aloe Vera is taken straight from harvest to production to ensure maximum potency. Many companies only use freeze dried Aloe Vera leaf as they are unable to get to production of the juice quickly.

Forever Living Products is my company of choice (yes I have tried others and although I have found one that I would use, their potency is not up to FLP). They produce an Aloe Vera Gel drink, not a juice. The difference between a gel and a juice is that the gel is from the inner leaf and the juice is the whole leaf. When choosing your Aloe products, read the ingredients list. Aloe Barbadensis should be the first ingredient. When you look at those awful bright green (an added colour) after sun gels, usually you will find that Aloe is one of the last ingredients on the list meaning there isn’t much in it. Forever Living Products lists always begin with Aloe Barbadensis. I wouldn’t be without a tube of their Aloe Vera Gelly in my Medicine cabinet. I also love their Aloe Propolis Creme for skin irritations and is my hand moisturiser. Propolis is what bees line their hives with to make it sterile. It has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties which make it amazing for Skin conditions and wound healing. I will be going into the benefits of Propolis in more details in a following blog post.
